It is still time for rock and roll

As the song says, “I love Rock and Roll”. I don’t really know why I like this genre, because nobody in my family does, but sometimes, when I play this kind of music, they enjoy some of the songs.

There are some doubts about Rock and Roll’s beginning. Some people say that Little Richard (he died on May 9th, 2020) invented it; others attribute it to Chuck Berry and other people say Elvis Presley was the inventor.

There are a lot of Rock genres that musicians named subgenres. Some of them are similar to the original Rock N’ Roll, but others are completely different from it. Some of their subgenres are associated with bad things, like drugs, sexual liberty and others. What really matters to me isn’t the lyrics, the bad sense of them or the meanings that those songs have; I love the rhythm and the emotions music makes me feel. The Rock that I like is not Heavy Metal, Punk or any other that could be vulgar; I love Classic Rock and Pop Rock.

I like many singers, bands and songs of Rock and Roll, Rock and other subgenres. Some of my favorite artists and songs of this wonderful genre are:

Elvis Presley, “The King of Rock and Roll”: in my opinion, he is one of the best singers of all music history and a musician that deserves to be remembered as the legend he is. Elvis was born on January 8th of 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi, United States. His musical career started on 1954, with the song “That’s All Right (Mama)”. A heart attack caused his death on August 16th, 1977, at the age of 42. I like many of his songs, but my favorites are Jailhouse Rock, Burning Love, Can’t Help Falling in Love, Viva Las Vegas, Hound Dog and Blue Suede Shoes.

Bon Jovi: Jon Bon Jovi created his musical band in 1983, in New Jersey, United States. It is one of the most successful Rock bands of all time, as I consider it. In 1991, Jon Bon Jovi won an award for Favorite Pop/Rock Single at the American Music Awards and was awarded a Golden Globe too. Although not all of the songs express positive things, their melodies are awesome. My two favorite songs of them are Livin’ on a Prayer and It’s My Life.

Queen: in my opinion, it is one of the best bands in history. Its members were Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon and Roger Taylor. It was a British band formed in London, in 1970. They became very famous in England, the United States and several other countries. Freddie Mercury was born on September 5th of 1946, in Zanzibar, Tanzania, with the name Farrokh Bulsara. In 1964, he and his family fled the Zanzibar Revolution and went to England. In 1970, he joined a group called Smile, formed by Brian May and Roger Taylor. Freddie suggested them to change the band’s name to Queen, and they accepted it. Mercury died on November 24th, 1991. My favorite songs of them are Killer Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You, We Are the Champions, Somebody to Love, Under Pressure, The Show Must Go On, and Radio Ga Ga.

I like many more singers and bands, but not many songs of them. Here are some examples.

Boston: “More Than a Feeling”

Survivor: “Eye of the Tiger” and “Burning Heart”

Journey: “Don’t Stop Believin’”

Chuck Berry: “Johnny B. Goode”

Joan Jett & the Blackhearts: “I love Rock and Roll”

Actually, a few people I know like this genre. Most of my friends prefer others such as Reggaeton and Trapp. We don’t share the same taste in music, but I love talking and sharing the music that I love with them, especially with my friends that also like Rock and Roll.

Even though in this genre the songs are based on the same Rock, you can realize that every singer or band had its own quality that identifies them. If you compare it with the current genres, like Trapp and Reggaeton, you can realize that all the songs have the same rhythm and the voices of the singers are so similar that maybe you cannot differentiate the songs from each other.

In conclusion, I know that each one of you likes one or more songs of Rock N’ Roll or other subgenre, but maybe you do not know their names or you have not given an opportunity to this marvelous genre, so, this is my invitation to do so.
