My medicine

What would life be without music? I really have a hard time imagining what it would be like. I believe it would be very boring and meaningless because music is a very important aspect of my life. I love music, and to me it is not only a form of entertainment; music is something much more complex and intricate. Sometimes, I am left speechless and perplexed by its beauty and greatness. It is hard to explain it with words. I just feel it. Besides, music can generate a lot of emotions and bring back many memories, which seems incredible to me. How can a song that represents happiness to me also represent sadness to another individual? This is simply wonderful.

Music has helped me a lot through tough times, and I am sure it also has helped some of you. Usually, when you are sad, you listen to sad songs, right? And it is somehow addictive. Well, the same has happened to me, and after some time listening to these songs, I feel better, because I can relate to the artists and interpret their art; they’re telling me that I’m not alone. They understand me, even if they don’t know me at all. I can feel their pain and empathize with them in some way.

The possibility of having a certain relatability with some of the biggest stars, who you think have it all, is also amusing. Various artists have included mental health in their art, speaking of things like depression (the most common one), bipolarity, and much more. Two albums that truly dive into this topic on a personal level are “Ye” by Kanye West (bipolarity), and “KIDS SEE GHOSTS” by KIDS SEE GHOSTS. These are my personal favorites related to mental health; the artists get very personal with their audience, making it easier to relate to, sympathize and understand them.

You would think these artists have it all and cannot suffer from this type of issues, but you would be wrong. Mental disorders do not discriminate; even the richest and most successful person in this planet can suffer from them. So it makes me happy that artists like Kid Cudi say things like, “Living life is a choice, making a difference in someone else’s isn’t”, showing that they care about us as listeners and that they will continue doing art as long as they keep helping others with it. And, truly, music is a cure for everything. Whenever I am not in a good mood and have lots of problems, it can make them disappear. Music embraces me and tells me it’s all going to be okay. And as I said before, this feeling music provides is quite stupendous and unexplainable.

I hope everyone is doing well and is mentally healthy, and that music can heal you as it does with me, because it is pretty amazing. We just have to hold on and have hope that everything will improve. Take care and, as a wise man once said, “we gon' be alright”.
