Partido de voleibol de la Cumbres International Cup

I have been in Cumbres for as long as I can remember and I had never thought of it as a Sports school. We had gone to a lot of championships and won many of them, but it wasn’t important to me or to anyone, or at least that’s how I perceived it.

Time went by and nothing changed; it was always the same routine. We competed time after time and no one really cared whether we won or lost. I was a little disappointed in our presence in tournaments and how other institutions perceived us: our competitors did not take us seriously. Instead, they just saw us as the “smart” school.

The years passed and I began noticing Cumbres getting more involved in sports. However, looking closer, I realized it was just male soccer they were focusing on. That was okay, but what about the other categories? There were many talented athletes and impressive sports at our school, such as volleyball and basketball.

I started feeling more interested in this, and I found out that not only were other sports being left out, but several independent athletes too. This might not have seemed important, but they truly worked hard -even if it wasn’t at school- and were not being recognized. We were all missing out on so many good disciplines and great athletes, and it wasn’t fair.

However, I think Cumbres has really changed during this last year, and it has been more than amazing for its reputation. I have seen a lot of diversity in sports and genders.

First, there was the Cumbres Cup, which was a lot of fun and very interesting because I was able to see how we were progressing, which made it exciting to watch. The whole school was supporting all the sports, and it feel different than before. Unfortunately, this cup had to be cancelled due to issues in the city, but that didn’t stop the Cumbres International Cup from happening in February. This was the perfect opportunity for the athletes to show their true abilities. Many people participated in it, and our name stood high on the leaderboard. We were incredibly proud to represent our school, our city, and our country in front of everyone. This was the first time I felt as if we were a part of something bigger, something much bigger.
